Developed locally by Toyota Australia, the new GVM upgrade option is scheduled to become available in Australia from August 2026 and will be priced from $4,000.

Toyota is introducing a factory-backed Toyota Genuine Accessories GVM upgrade option that will be available on select HiLux grades.

Increased payload for Toyota HiLux

The Toyota GVM upgrade increases the payload of applicable HiLux variants by between 372kg and 435kg, depending on the variant.[G6][H8]

With the upgrade fitted, maximum payload capacity increases to approximately 1,525kg on selected variants.[G6][H8] This provides additional load-carrying capability for fleet and private customers transporting tools, equipment and other loads.

Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations John Pappas said the new option would further enhance the capability of the HiLux while providing customers with Toyota-backed peace of mind.

“Introducing a GVM upgrade option for the new HiLux will allow customers to maximise the vehicle’s already-excellent load-carrying capabilities, providing benefits to both fleet and private buyers,” Mr Pappas said.

“Being Toyota’s very own factory-fitted option, it ensures the HiLux retains its Toyota five-year warranty and is compatible with all safety systems, giving it a real advantage over its aftermarket competition.”

Australian-developed suspension upgrade

Along with the increase in payload, the Toyota GVM upgrade includes longer monotube shock absorbers at the rear.

The upgrade increases vehicle ride height by up to 10mm, while axle capacities are increased by 100kg at the front and 280kg at the rear.[H8]

The package has been developed locally by Toyota Australia to support the increased GVM and carrying capacity of the applicable HiLux variants.
